Why William and Kate are breaking tradition for third birth

Kate Middleton is due to have baby number 3 in April this year, and according to The Mirror she would like to have it at home rather than at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington where both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were born.

Either Kensington Palace or Anmer Hall, William and Kate’s home on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, have both been suggested as the site for the home birth of royal baby number 3, with the Express reporting that Prince William is on board with the plan.

“[Kate] has discussed it with William and he is being very supportive,” a royal insider revealed.

“Above all they have agreed that having a home birth would save a massive intrusion into the day-to-day running of any hospital where she gave birth.

“They were very concerned about the chaos caused with the first two children as hundreds of press and public camped outside for several days, and they would like to avoid a repeat if they could,” the royal insider added.

So it seems the decision is less a matter of privacy but in fact their consideration for the other patients of the hospital where she would labour.

For her first two births in 2013 and 2015 respectively, Kate gave birth to Prince George and Princess Charlotte at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. This is where both Prince William and Prince Harry were also born.

Kate wouldn’t be the first royal mother to birth outside of the hospital. In the past many royals were born at home, including Queen Elizabeth who was born at her parents’ home in London. None of her children were born in a hospital either, with her three sons (Princes Charles, Andrew and Edward) being born at Buckingham Palace, and Princess Anne at royal residence Clarence House in London.
