What Harry and Meghan's body language says about their relationship

A body language expert has weighed in on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's first joint public appearance at the Invictus Games today.

Dr Lillian Glass, based in Beverly Hills, California, pointed out that Prince Harry looked relaxed and happy. In fact, she hasn't seen him this relaxed in public since he was a little boy.

The expert, who has a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders, said the 33-year-old prince often looks tense or slightly worried in public, even with previous girlfriends, but next to Meghan he looked completely at ease.

“First of all, we've never seen Harry this relaxed with anybody,” Lillian said. “That's number one. Every girl he's been with, there's kind of been a distancing, an uptightness about him, a real formality. But with Meghan you really see there's a connection.”

She also noted several signs that show just how in sync the couple are together.

When Harry and Megan walked to the tennis match together, Lillian pointed out, their feet were literally in sync, meaning the two were “in step, literally”.

“Their hands are intertwined. Her smile is very genuine, as is his with the raised cheeks the mouth open. This is the real deal here,” she added.

Lillian also observed that at one point the couple try to appear more formal, with Meghan crossing her arms and Harry clasping his hands. But they both couldn’t completely suppress their affection.

“They're trying to be formal,” Lillian observed. “But the fact they're both leaning into each other speaks volume.”

“He's very comfortable. He's leaning into her,' she added. 'And look at their seating. It's very male and female in terms of the woman takes up less room and the man takes up more room. She's trying to be more demure.”

Overall, the body language expert says Prince Harry and Meghan are a “very warm-looking couple”.

“It's really quite refreshing to see this type of affection in a way where you're trying to be discreet, yet it's leaking out,” she added.
