The food Meghan Markle is banned from eating now she's a royal

Becoming a royal in the British royal family comes with many protocols that are required to be adhered to.

Along with the fashion rules they are expected to follow and ensuring any public displays of affection are in accordance with royal protocol, the royal rules even extend to the food they’re allowed to eat.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, may find the new food rules slightly challenging, as she is a self-confessed foodie.

However, for all royals, when it comes to travelling and eating anywhere abroad at events and state banquets, garlic is one food that is off the menu.

“Garlic is banned from being included in foods eaten by royal family members,” the Sunday Express wrote.

“With many meetings between official visitors, it is thought to be advised against to prevent any awkward bad breath.”

Royal chef at Buckingham Palace, Darren McGrady, told RecipesPlus, “We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions.”

The chef added, “The Queen would never have garlic on the menu.”

It is also advised by the palace that royals avoid eating shellfish while travelling, due to the high-risk factor of food poisoning.

But there is one indulgent food that is always allowed! The Queen’s chocolate cake.

“Now the Chocolate Biscuit Cake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again every day until it’s all gone,” chef Darren revealed.

“She [the Queen] will take a small slice every day until eventually there is only one tiny piece, but you have to send that up, she wants to finish the whole of that cake,” he added.
