Princess Mary debuts edgy new look

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark never puts a sartorial foot wrong and it was no different last Friday when the Danish royal attended the 2018 Women's Board Award in Copenhagen.

But fans were surprised to see Princess Mary in an elegant but much edgier ensemble than she usually wears.

The 45-year-old was all smiles in a chic camo blouse and a new knee-length leather skirt, featuring a sheer panel along the hem. She completed the look with a pair of snakeskin heels.

However, Princess Mary’s edgy new look divided the online fashion community.

“Leather can be very elegant, but this is not how it's done. Leather needs simple, no-fuss items... Mary's outfit is guilty of that,” one fashion commentator wrote.

“I think she looks good, and appropriate for the event. I think the skirt is interesting and the hem treatment lightens it up,” another argued.

The royal, who is patron of the Women's Board Award, presented the prestigious award to the 2018 winner – Marianne Kirkegaard, the CEO of CSM Bakery Solutions in Atlanta, USA – before addressing the attendees.

The award has been held annually since 2014 and was established to put a focus on the achievements of women in management and on boards.
