Harvey Weinstein tests positive for coronavirus

Former Hollywood producer and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

The 68-year-old has been placed in isolation at maximum security prison Wende Correctional Facility in New York, according to Michael Powers, president of the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association.

At least one other inmate there has tested positive, NBC reported.

Weinstein is serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault. His lawyers are looking to appeal against his conviction.

A lawyer for Weinstein said on Sunday night his team had not been informed of the diagnosis. “Given Mr Weinstein’s state of health, we are of course concerned, if this is the case, and we are vigilantly monitoring the situation,” said lawyer Imran Ansari.

Weinstein was found guilty of sexually assaulting former production assistant Mimi Haleyi in 2006 and raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann in 2013.

More than 100 other women have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against Weinstein.
