What to do if your car overheats

Despite the technological era we live in and the modern vehicles we drive, overheating cars are a problem that all motorists need to know how to respond to.

Not only is the overheating of a car a significant reason why people call for roadside assistance, but it is also the cause of many motorists injuring themselves as they attempt to fix their car.

Here’s what you need to do to stay safe if your car begins overheating.

1. Pull over to a safe location as soon as you notice the overheating and put your hazard lights on to warn other vehicles. If you continue to drive, you could significantly increase the damage to your engine and vehicle.

2. Call your roadside assistance to help you.

 3. While you are waiting for your roadside assistance, do not open the bonnet. It can be very dangerous to remove the radiator cap from an overheated engine and it may take several hours to cool.

If overheating is not caught in time it can require a replacement of the engine.

Remember to always pay attention to your dashboard temperature indicator in case the “check engine” or “temperature” warning light illuminates.
