This latest Netflix scam is particularly devious

Email security service MailGuard has flagged a new email scam targeting users of the popular online streaming service Netflix, and this one is particularly devious.

The scam involves a legitimate-looking email like the one below, which is designed to appear as a prompt from Netflix to update your payment details after a declined charge.

The email reads, “We attempted to authorise the Amex card you have on file but were unable to do so. We will automatically attempt to charge your card again with 24-28 hours. Update the expiry date and CVV (card verification value) for your Amex card as soon as possible so you can continue using your account.”

If the recipient clicks the “Update Payment” button, they’re redirected to a new page where they’re prompted to enter their card details, which are then stolen by the scammers.

"This sort of phishing scam allows cybercriminals to harvest victim’s credit card credentials," MailGuard stated.

"MailGuard has successfully prevented these emails from reaching our customers, but unprotected inboxes will be affected today. Please exercise caution if you are not a MailGuard customer."
