Over60 community remember the first concert they attended

Last month, we asked you, the Over60 community, to share memories from the first concert you ever attended. By the sounds of things, you were quite the music lovers! From The Beatles to the Bee Gees, here are your most exciting stories.

  1. “Beatles concert in the 60s at The Empire in Liverpool. Fans were screaming so loudly that The Red Cross were handing out cotton wool for the ears. Ticket cost 10 shillings and sixpence. The entire stage was full of amplifiers and John kept asking the crowd to keep it down so we could actually hear them singing. Great live performance I shall never forget.” – Sylvia Calderbank
  2. “Oh, my goodness! We didn't have phones back then to take videos and photos but I took my little cousin down to the Abba concert at Melbourne Myer music bowl. Wow it was so good, what an honour to be there to see and hear a world-famous group! They were so good. This was in the beginning before they were massively famous.” – Lynette Wynne
  3. “1964 Rolling Stones concert at the Sydney Show grounds (Hordern Pavilion). Very noisy screaming by the audience so you could not really hear them singing. All I can say is I was there.” – Dianne Corsi
  4. “Bill Haley & the Comets with Johnny O'Keefe as the supporting act, in Sydney JO'K stole the show, there was so much screaming you couldn't hear singing and I found myself being swept up in it all and screaming along with the best of them.” – Janet Morris
  5. “Led Zeppelin... I couldn’t believe it when my mum said I could go with my brothers – I was only 14! It has remained one of the highlights of my life.” – Karen Cahill
  6. “AC/DC at Kilmore Shire Hall, Victoria in the late 60s. I thought that fellow rolling around on the stage in a school uniform was a bit of a drongo. How wrong was I?” – Judy and Terry Doolan
  7. “Jackson Five at Beatty Park, Perth in about 1973. Still remember Michael singing “Ben” and some girls diving into the pool to get to him.” – Heather Nicholson
  8. “Billy Joel at the Entertainment Centre in 1991 with my friend Louise. Worst seats, behind him up in the last section near the wall – on the aisle. He felt sorry for us and came up held my hand and sang to us. Wow.” – Leanne Claringbold
