Defictionalisation is when a made-up item in a movie becomes an item that you can purchase in real life. The reverse product placement, sees spin-off items become hugely successful products because of the following from the movie. Here are the best movie products that have become available to buy.

1. Back to the Future II’s Nike Air MAGs

The self-lacing shoe was first introduced to the world on Back to the Future II in 1989. However, 15 years later and this shoe is now available. The shoe’s designer Tinker Hatfield started working on a replica that has light-up soles and a rechargeable internal battery. In 2011, just over 1500 of the shoes went to auction to raise funds for the Michael J Fox Foundation so it is very hard to get your hands on a pair of the high-tech shoes.

2. The Simpson’s Duff Beer

The Duff Beer is Home Simpson’s drink of choice and is available in certain places around the world. The drink has encountered various problems and lawsuits as it is associated with a cartoon which might encourage kids to drink it. The drink was available in Australia until 2014.

3. Ghostbuster’s Stay Puft Marshmallows

Be warned before you purchase this marshmallow, in the original Ghostbusters movie this Marshmallow Man becomes an evil villain. The busters save the day by making it return to sweet mush.

4. Forrest Gump’s Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Forrest had a dream to start a shrimping business with fellow soldier Bubba. After Bubba’s death, Forrest pursued the dream despite the adversity he had to face along the way. Paramount owner Viacom used this touching story to launch a restaurant in California called ‘Bubba Gump Shrimp Co’. The restaurant is hugely successful and is now a global chain.

5. Willy Wonka chocolate

After the release of the film in 1971, an original bar was released but was recalled due to manufacturing problems. Nestle have now released a range of sweets after the brand from Roald Dahl’s iconic book.
