John Travolta opens up about son’s death: “I don’t know if I would have made it through”

John Travolta has credited Scientology for helping him cope with his son’s death.

In a new interview with Us Magazine, Travolta said the church guided him through “the worst thing that’s ever happened in my life”.

Travolta’s late son Jett died in 2009 at the age of 16 after having a seizure and hitting his head in the bathroom during a family Christmas vacation in the Bahamas.

“The church never left our side for two years,” said Travolta. “I don’t know if I would have made it through without their support. Our church is the number one thing that keeps us grounded.”

The 64-year-old actor also added that his daughter Ella, 18, and son Benjamin, 8, are the priority for both himself and wife Kelly Preston.

“Our children keep our interest in life very high,” said Travolta. “Their future is very important to us.”

He revealed that both children are looking into a career in acting.

“They’re smart kids and they do well because they’re encouraged to apply what they learn,” said Travolta.

“Ella is making a living as an actress. We’re very proud of her. She’s old-school elegant and gifted in the arts.”

Travolta's wife of 27 years Preston said their marriage is not without its challenges, but the pair were “just right together” from the beginning.

“We picked the right people and [keep] it honest and … [check] in with each other,” said Preston. “A relationship doesn't just happen. You have to work at it. You've got to keep it fun, and that's what we do.”
