“Famous last words.” It’s such a throwaway phrase sometimes, that we thought we’d dig around and find some actual last words of famous people.
Lucille Ball
“My Florida water.”
The beloved actress and comedienne was asking for her perfumed water before she died from a ruptured aorta following open-heart surgery in 1989.
Joe DiMaggio
“I finally get to see Marilyn.”
DiMaggio was talking about ex-wife Marilyn Monroe, who had died 37 years earlier. The baseball player reportedly had roses delivered to Monroe’s crypt several times a week for 20 years. He died from lung cancer in 1999.
Errol Flynn
“I’ve had a hell of a lot of fun and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.”
What a fantastic last sentence to leave behind. The iconic actor died of a heart attack in 1959, reportedly just moments after uttering those words.
Humphrey Bogart
“I should never have switched from Scotch to martinis.”
When the Casablanca star succumbed to oesophageal cancer in 1957, his last utterance was reportedly lamenting his drink of choice. Other reports suggest that he said to his wife, Lauren Bacall, “Goodbye, kid. Hurry back,” as she left his side to pick up their children from school.
Elvis Presley
“I hope I haven’t bored you.”
That’s the last thing Elvis said at his final press conference. He would later die of an overdose in 1977, with some reporting that his actual last words were a promise to his fiancée, Ginger Alden, that he wouldn’t fall asleep in the bathroom.
