Children’s book about Judy Garland causes controversy

A children’s book about the life of Judy Garland has gone viral after pages from the sombre book were shared online.

Eddie Robson shared photos of the pages of the book from author Ann Jungman’s book “Over the Rainbow”, which chronicles the life of Garland, after his six-year-old son borrowed it from school.

The book reveals the “struggle, pain and determination that the young Frances Gumm (Judy Garland) went through in order to achieve her fame”.

Some passages in the book describe Judy’s struggle with her mother, Ethel Marion Milne, with one instance describing how Judy was left alone sobbing in a hotel room for a period of time.

Another page reveals the star’s struggle with prescription medicine including sleeping pills, dieting pills and “pep-up” pills.

The Oxford University Press Twitter account has since revealed the title is no longer available.

Eddie Robson’s tweets of the children’s book has since gained 2300 likes and 852 retweets.
