5 books with TV series coming soon

These days, television is just as good as film. With more big-name stars than ever before signing on to small-screen roles, we certainly are in the golden age of television. In fact, last year there were more TV series than ever before! So, before these sure-to-be-hit shows premiere in the next year, get a leg up by reading the books they’re based on.

Still Star-Crossed by Melinda Taub

Romeo and Juliet fans will love this book (and its upcoming TV series), which picks up where the play left off. Following the Montagues and the Capulets after the tragic deaths of the two star-crossed lovebirds, Still Star-Crossed is just as drama-filled at Shakespeare’s masterpiece. The series is created by Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal writer Heather Mitchell and will star Australia’s very own Wade Briggs.

Time After Time by Karl Alexander

Alexander’s novel has already been adapted into a film and is now set to get the small screen treatment. It explores what might have happened if famed author H.G. Wells had indeed built a time machine, travelling to modern day San Francisco in pursuit of 19th century serial killer, Jack the Ripper. It will star Revenge actor Josh Bowman and Harry Potter's Freddie Stroma.

The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

It’s back! The classic novel-turned-film will be bringing chills and thrills to our TV screens with a new series featuring Geena Davis. It tells the story of a Jesuit priest who attempts to exorcise a demon believed to be possessing the young daughter of a famous actress. Even creepier, Blatty based the novel after hearing about a real-life exorcism case in 1949.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman’s critically-acclaimed 2001 novel will be coming to television next year, bringing with it a star-studded cast and crew. The fantasy-drama follows a man named Shadow who comes to learn that all the old gods of ancient mythology are in fact alive and live among us as humans. Produced by Bryan Fuller (the man behind Hannibal), the series will star English actor Ricky Whittle and X-Files actress Gillian Anderson.

Midnight, Texas Trilogy by Charlaine Harris

Harris is best-known for bringing us the Southern Vampire Mysteries (adapted into the hit series True Blood), but Midnight, Texas is just as dramatic and chilling. Set in the town of Midnight, Texas, the series explores its strange residents, mysterious visitors and sinister secrets. The series will be headed up by acclaimed director Niels Arden Oplev, known for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
