Triple the price! Princess Diana’s iconic outfits sell for $500,000
Dresses that were worn by the late Princess Diana in the ‘80s and ‘90s sold for over £260,000 (NZD$501,000).
All of the clothes available in the collection were sold by the same collector.
One of the outfits that were sold included a designer dress worn by Princess Diana during her visit to the Gulf States in 1986.
The blue and white striped outfit was created by the royal’s wedding dress designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel. The outfit went for £106,000 (NZD$205,444), which was the highest of all three.
Diana also wore a red wool skirted suit that was designed by Jasper Conran, who confirmed that he custom-made the outfit custom for her. The ensemble went for £62,500 (NZD$120,542).
The third look, which is also believed to be custom-made by Catherine Walker, was worn by the Princess during the President of Turkey’s state visit to the UK in 1988. It went for £93,000 (NZD$179,370).
"Diana's day wear is much rarer than her evening wear, which she auctioned a huge tranche off in the late 1990s," Kerry Taylor, of Kerry Taylor Auctions, explained to the Daily Mail.
"Day wear dresses she wore for more formal functions she either gave to friends or charity shops, so they have mostly disappeared. These were very well documented outfits and one of a kind, as they were made specifically for her."
