Princess Diana's close friend shares rare photo on 21st anniversary of her death

It’s been 21 years since the untimely death of Princess Diana, and the effects of her passing is still felt throughout the world.

As Prince William and Prince Harry took time off from their royal duties to honour their mum, a close friend of the Princess, Rosa Monckton, took to Twitter to share a rare and heartfelt photo of her.

Posted on the anniversary of her death, the photo shows Princess Diana in a moment of pure bliss as she’s seen laughing and slouched back in a chair, wearing a blue and white tracksuit. Unlike all the other photos we’ve seen of the Princess, where she appears glamorous and guarded, this is a refreshingly different perspective.

Monckton wrote: “Diana as I remember her. Not enough is written about her sense of fun and zest for life."

She added, “Friend and wonderful godmother to Domenica. RIP.”

Monckton’s daughter Domenica was born with Down Syndrome in 1995.

Monckton has previously opened up about the support she received from Princess Diana in regard to her daughter’s diagnosis.

“She said, ‘You just have to believe in her,’” Monckton told People Magazine. “She said, ‘Believe in her, love her and I’ll be there every step of the way’. She already had that vision of what Domenica could become, which I simply couldn’t see.”
