Clarence House releases never-before-seen photo of Prince Charles
He’s the longest serving heir apparent to the British throne in history, and with his lifetime in the spotlight, Clarence House has shared a never-before-seen photo of the royal to celebrate his achievements.
The photo, which shows the now 70-year-old riding a bike, was taken in 1969 during his time as a student at Trinity College, Cambridge.
The grandfather studied at the facility between 1967 and 1970 and graduated with a degree in history.
It was here that he narrowly escaped death as he once revealed how he was “run over by a bus” while cycling around the city.
Speaking about the traumatic incident that occurred outside of the university’s Fitzwilliam Museum, the Prince said: “If you look at the results now, as far as I’m concerned, quite how I survived being run over by a bus when I was on a bicycle just outside here, I don’t know.
“But it was a very special experience … as most of you probably know,” he said wittingly.
The royal paid a visit to the same museum in 2016 and reminisced about his time at university.
“All I can tell you is that time goes past unbelievably quickly. But I enjoyed it enormously,” he said.
During his time, Charles made waves throughout the royal household as he was the first heir to go to university straight after completing his A levels. Previously, it was always an expectation that those who will ascend the throne will serve in the military after they finished their secondary education.
