Boris Johnson's mother dies suddenly
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s mother Charlotte Johnson Wahl has died at the age of 79.
Johnson’s mother died “suddenly and peacefully” at a London hospital on Monday, according to a statement released by the family.
According to The Times newspaper, Charlotte was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease when she was 40.
She was an artist and continued to paint landscapes and portraits following her diagnosis.
“I try to paint every day if I possibly can, though I have to go to the hospital a lot,” she told The Times in 2008.
“I still manage to paint, though my arm will suddenly do a movement which is completely unintentional and that almost brings me to tears.”
In response to the news, Labour leader Keir Starmer wrote on Twitter: “I’m very sorry to learn of the prime minister’s loss. My condolences to him and his family.”
