So far, Mr Cyril has lost a total of 6kg and still has another 19kg to go. He recently appeared on the Today show to talk about his switch to a healthier lifestyle.

“I’ve never thought I’d get this far. It’s overwhelming. I can’t believe it myself,” he said.

“I used to eat a lot of fried things. I like big breakfasts, I’ve cut that out now.”

For his 86th birthday, he plans on celebrating the occasion at his local Chinese restaurant, saying that will be his “cheat day”.
