Intimate footage of the royal family just weeks before the outbreak of the Second World War has resurfaced today.

Taken from a newsreel from May 1939, the black-and-white footage shows a 13-year-old Elizabeth and her sister, Princess Margaret enjoying some family time on the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

The two young princesses can be seen with their father, King George VI and mother who at the time had the title of Queen Elizabeth.

The silent footage also sees the family sitting together laughing and strolling together as an eight-year-old Princess Margaret chases the original Royal corgi, Dookie.
